What you're

Question 8 is officially titled An Act to Restore a Sensible Marijuana Policy. If it passes, it takes effect January 1, 2028. Here's the plain-language version of each outcome.
A Yes vote
Repeals the adult-use market
Repeals the laws that authorize, regulate and tax licensed adult-use retail sales
Ends legal home cultivation for non-medical use
Cuts penalty-free possession to 1 ounce, down from the 2 ounces the Legislature just enacted
Creates a $100 civil fine and forfeiture for 1–2 ounces
Makes Massachusetts the first state in the country to repeal an established adult-use market
A No vote
Keeps the current framework
Keeps licensed dispensaries open, tested, tracked and ID-checked
Protects home grow rights for adults 21+
Keeps the 2-ounce possession limit passed this year
Keeps cannabis tax revenue flowing to cities and towns
Changes nothing day to day. The law stays as voters wrote it in 2016.

Illegal to buy.
Question 8 keeps possession legal but removes every legal way to obtain cannabis — no retail, no home grow. Unless you're a registered medical patient or someone gifts it to you, there is no lawful source left. Demand doesn't disappear when stores close. It moves somewhere with no ID check, no lab test, and no tax receipt.
